Amy Goodman is My Hero! Thank You for All Your Hard Work
Today Amy Goodman interviewed Noam Chomsky. It was a comprehensive interview which covered a lot of ground. I am often critical of Chomsky but I respect the hell of of the man, he has done much fine work. And Amy Goodman is one of the best damn journalist I have had the privilege to listen to on a regular basis. I consider Amy to be the “voice of the left”in the US, her interviews and her regular program “Democracy Now” (the war and peace report) is the finest regular news hour I know about.
Today her interview with professor Chomsky was stellar. As were professor chomsky’s reply’s to her questions.
The rest of her program was also great, (as usual). She interviewd Tim DeChristopher, the young man with the courage of his convictions who stood up against the illegal and environmentally treasonous policy to auction off federal land. This young man is now facing 10yrs in prison for standing up for what he believed in and disrupting a federal auction. Yes, that’s right, disrupting a federal auction can cost you 10yrs in federal prison. The price of standing up for what you believe in can be high. And no one was harmed, he simply decided to do the right thing and now he faces a possible 10yrs in prison. What a country…
We are at the crossroads as a nation. Our economy is crashing, our military is spread dangerously thin around the globe to protect the interests of empire. We have lost our domestic industrial base, the press is largely made up of sycophantic lap dogs who softball questions to public officials to protect their access and stay in line with editorial policy. Our constitution is under attack if not in the trash and we are getting far to comfortable with constant war.
Thank goodness for the elite core of journalists like Goodman and her colleges at “Democracy Now”. Not to neglect many other brave souls doing reports like “Counterspin” on www.fair.org who like Amy actually speak truth to power. (I know there are those I haven’t mentioned, www.narconews.com and Al Giordano’s team and many others) I simply have to say that Amy Goodman has delivered the goods to me 5 days a week for many a years, and I don’t think she has ever let me down.
Amy is a light in the darkness, one can learn more from her show once a week than in months of viewing network news, and she is on 5 times a week. Check her out www.democracynow.org , the poverty of words does not allow me to express the qualitative difference between what she presents and what the networks are selling. In short, Amy Goodman is my hero.
